February 2 2011: Its been a long time

Well, another day at home tomorrow. We had a snow storm last night the house is nearly in snow. I am watching the news right now, CPS is making an announcement about the status of classes tomorrow. Oh my, there is not school on Feb 3- amazing and incredible give the history of CPS to not close the schools in the past. More time at home with Keelan and the National Board Certification papers. I am also exercising while shoveling the snow form the entrance of the house and the garage.

Enjoy the photos of the snow storm you missed...

The snow was over 3 feet here by the garage.

Fresh snow all up to his knees.

Our new SNOW cushion.

Keelan refuses to walk on the snow. There was about 2-3 ft of snow on the porch.

Our back patio.  You can sink in a be lost forever.

Earlier on the snowstorm this photo was taken from inside the house.

July 31: Keelan get her first wheels

Well, another milestone, Keelan got her first set of wheels today! She got a "Flyer" Tricycle.

Her new tricycle which she call bicycle is blue. The little compartment on the back is yellow and it comes with a long handle for parents to maneuver the front wheels- in case the litle one wants to run away-. Anyway, she is delighted- has not stop talking about it since we bought it this morning.

June 28: Pee Fest _2 The Potty Song

Tinkle, Tinkle Little Star

Tinkle, tinkle you're the star.
You're a big girl; yes, you are.
Use the potty; yes, you can
Then you know to wash your hands
Tinkle, tinkle you're the star.
You're a big girl; yes, you are.
Tinkle, tinkle you're the star.
You're a big girl; yes, you are.
No more diapers. No more mess.
Use the potty. Yeah! Success!
Tinkle, tinkle you're the star.
You're a big girl; yes, you are.
Tinkle, tinkle you're the star.
You're a big girl; yes, you are.
Use the potty; wash your hands
Wear the big girl training pants
Tinkle, tinkle you're the star.

June 27: Peace and quiet

All is peaceful at home. I just returned from the Farmer's Market, I just can not get enough of it. The "market" is the best thing ever, since we started to attend, we no longer shop at the "big" grocery store. It is just such a pleasure to stroll on the street, talk to friends or just start a conversation with a neighbour. It is a very enjoyable feeling to share. We ( when I say we I refer to me and William), have established a relationship with some of the vendors. That is something you can not do at Jewel.
Today it was raining when Keelan and  woke up. So, William stayed home with Keelan and I went to the market by myself. Yes, it was nice to not have to think of others, but it is not the same without the family. Now, going to the market is the thing to do on Sundays- our family day-. So I rather that we are all together when is time to get groceries.
I purchase white fish from Michigan and the a new root-cabbage like- that I am going to try. I do not know the name, my friends at Radical Roots said that it was good. I will visit their website to find the name of the root I purchase from them. Oh the baked beans were delish...next time I will try it with "soldier beans", I used "pink beans" this time and I believe that the beans absorbed too much liquid so it was not as saucy as I expected the baked beans to be. This week I am trying a new salad mix and beets.

This is Keelan's artsy portrait, in this photo she looks like Ivette (QPD).

June 25 2010: While Keelan is asleep

Garage sale on the alley, beans cooking on the stove and Keelan is asleep. The perfect time to blog. I have not blogged for a while....I wonder why not.

It is a slow day today I am making baked beans, it takes a long time to bake and then I have to mix the molasses, salt pork, etc. I love cooking...oh the Andy Warhol song is on, Keelan is dancing up the storm-she loves music and specially David Bowie songs. Back to cooking, summer, I can say is my favorite part of the year. School is over, days are slow and I can spend more time with my family and also cooking. Speaking of cooking, one of the projects I have started this summer is to document the recipes I create. I want to write a recipe book for Keelan.

Asparagus and Leek soup with Prosciutto ham

I am still have to work on the presentation but this soup was delicious. This week I will be making baked beans with bacon and salt pork mmm...off cooking now.

November 26: Keelan's first year

Keelan likes to read.

Having a good laugh.

Keelan was a monkey this past Halloween.
She loves monkeys, however Sally was not very happy being a postal worker.
Luckily, for us she did not go postal on us...

November 26: Keelan's 2nd Thanksgivng

Today we celebrate Thanksgiving but this year there will not be the juicy aromas of the slow cooking turkey in the oven. We decided to join William's friends Amy and Mike for dinner today.
There are many things to be thankful for and a few to be sad about this year. We are looking forward to Christmas.

September 27: Keelan's food these days

These days food had become a serious business at the Scanlan home, every Sunday we go tho the Farmer's Market, shop, then we go home and the fun begins. While William indulge in football games and such I am in the kitchen making Keelan's food from scratch. So, no more store bought jars of baby food. All fresh, organic and homemade. I never imagine I would do such a thing, but now that I am do it, it feels GREAT! That makes up for the cloth diapers I was planning to use once Keelan was born, right! It never happened.

Tuesday, July 29: Traveling and other adventures

Finally a "slow" day after all the traveling this summer. The summer travels started with a trip to Kansas City, MO. And so we arrived... we stayed at the Hyatt downtown Kansas City, Missouri, close to Union Station were the Scanlan family have a brick with their name. (insert picture here)
Keelan met with her many relatives, visited William's childhood town, Independance- home of , and for the first time held her bottle all by herself.
